Effect: Generic noise suppression |
Description of
effect:
A FFT noise suppression method that do not need a prepared noise
image scan.
Description of parameters:
Noise guide: The arrow pointing at the approximate noise level of the waveform. The noise guide will scan through the file, but if the noise is about the same all over, it will stabilize immediately.
Strength radio buttons: Please select the strength of your liking. The noise guide will probably point out an appropriate choice.
Dual mono / stereo checkboxes: When the waveform is in stereo, it may be appropriate to use the dual mono mode at some times, if the noise is significantly louder in either of the channels. Often however this will not be the best choice as the result tend to flutter somewhat.
Preview: Press the 'Preview' button to test the effect to see if it is tuned properly. It is quicker than applying the effect and making an undo...
What could go
wrong
This kind of noise suppression may leave traces of the noise when
you have removed "most of it, but not everything":
-very irritating squeaking. Either go back a step or
two, OR, suppress even more.
Tip. How to determine the quality of a setting: Create a stereo file of the waveform that contains identical channels. Then test your setting by applying to only one channel. Ideally, the music should stay in the middle, and no details of the music should flutter, not even move slowly! The noise should be present in one channel (listen in headphones!) and the other channel should be clean! Is it?
Tip. Try to find a setting that meet your standard. Then go back one step. As a technician you probably think more about the noise, than about the music. -The listeners, listen to the music.
